Ovary cyst, Should surgery?

POSTED BY Unknown on Wednesday, November 3, 2010

I was 27 years old and will soon marry. I had psychological problems before the wedding because I did not dare to come clean about the disease that I suffered to prospective husbands. Not long ago I had a cyst was detected. I am confused to treat it, because doctors recommend for surgery and I am afraid. Is there another way to treat uterine cysts? Are there any foods I should not eat?
Really untreated cyst can enlarge and become cancerous? How to prevent uterine cysts are not worse? ARe cysts can affect sexual intercourse? I am afraid can not satisfy a partner. I also worry that when exposed on the first night will feel the pain because these cysts. Are my concerns justified? Are patients cysts can still have children? Thank you - Sasha, Jakarta.
Here's the answer from Dr. Luky Satria, SpOG, obstetricians and content of UB Woman & Children Hospital:
Usually if a doctor recommends an operation means that the size of the cyst to cyst is quite large. Cyst surgery is recommended for cysts with a size greater than 5 cm. Handling also depends on the type and size of the cyst.
If the size of the cyst is small and can not find the ultrasound examination and inspection of solid tumor markers (Ca-125) levels are low, it can be observed to see the growth of these cysts. If the observation cyst grows large, the surgery had to be done.
Ovarian cyst is a benign and some are malignant. This can be known from the physical examination, ultrasound, and examination of tumor markers. Usually the cyst is malignant (cancer) is growing rapidly and patients experience significant weight loss. But the certainty of a cyst is benign or malignant if it has been done Anatomical Pathology examination after cyst removal through surgery itself.
Ovarian cysts are not going to affect the sexual relationship and also will not cause pain. However, you should come clean on future husband on this issue. If the cyst had to have surgery, nor is it a problem because cyst surgery is a fairly safe operation and is often performed by obstetricians.
Cyst surgery now can be done by laparoscopy, the surgical technique performed by making two or three small holes (diameter 5-10 mm) around the abdomen. One hole in the navel is used to insert a device that is equipped with a camera to transfer images in the abdominal cavity to the screen, while two other holes for surgical equipment.

Probably, ruptured ovarian cyst needs surgery. But if not benign, it will just melt along with our cycle.
